BREAKING NEWS: NRL casualty ward Scans indicate devastating news for two Brisbane Broncos players…read more

The Broncos have confirmed a lisfranc injury for star prop Payne Haas, while scans have also revealed a syndesmosis issue for grand final hero Ezra Mam.

With five rounds remaining the Broncos face the prospect of being without both Haas and Mam for the rest of the season.

Haas played just 10 minutes at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday after succumbing to the same injury that forced Knights star Kalyn Ponga to spend 11 weeks on the sidelines earlier in the season.

Five-eighth Mam came down awkwardly in a tackle just before half-time and had to be helped from the field, unable to put any pressure on his right ankle.

“We will consult specialists in coming days, with both players unavailable for selection this weekend while we map out a way forward,” Broncos head of performance David Ballard said on Monday.

Hooker Tyson Smoothy (ankle) will also undergo an MRI later after picking up a knock playing for Broncos affiliate South Logan Magpies in the Hostplus Cup.

Elsewhere, Cronulla halfback Braydon Trindall left the field with a hamstring injury late in his side’s win over the Rabbitohs.

The playmaker exited the game with 11 minutes remaining and headed straight up the tunnel in a development that overshadowed the 14-point victory.

Cronulla’s playmaker depth has already been tested with Nicho Hynes sidelined with a fractured ankle and unlikely to return before Round 27.

Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon later provided more detail around the injury and fears his halfback could spend at least a week on the sidelines.

“He has an awareness there, which made him flag it,” Fitzgibbon said.

“He was tested, and it feels like there might be something there. But nothing went pop and there (was nothing to show) it’s going to be an extended period if any.”

The Knights lost bench forward Jacob Saifiti to a calf injury suffered during the warm-up at BlueBet Stadium on Sunday.

Saifiti had to be assisted from the field by Knights trainers and was ruled out of the match, with Tom Cant coming into the squad and Brodie Jones the new 18th man.

Raiders forward Morgan Smithies left the field in the 70th minute and coach Ricky Stuart said post-match that he does not expect to have the Englishman available newt week.

A blow for the Warriors in the first half of their clash against the Eels with lock Dylan Walker leaving the field after 20 minutes for a HIA which he failed.

In Friday’s second game it was the Roosters losing a player to a failed HIA when Lindsay Collins was ruled out following a head clash with teammate Victor Radley.

The Tricolours were dealt more blows in the second half, with winger Dom Young ruled out with a hamstring injury and forward Nat Butcher with a rib cartilage injury.

The Dolphins were forced into a late shuffle before the match against the Roosters with Kodi Nikorima ruled out with illness and Tevita Pangai Jnr dropping to 18th player after a hamstring complaint ruled him out of the starting side.

Winger Jamayne Isaako was unable to finish the match after coming off late with an ankle injury.

Melbourne Storm forward Tui Kamikamica was ruled out a day out from his side’s clash against the Dragons with groin soreness.

Cowboys utility Jake Granville suffered a suspected pec injury in Thursday night’s match against Wests Tigers at Leichhardt Oval.

Granville suffered the injury in the first half and played through to the break but was unable to return.

The Cowboys also lost second-rower Heilum Luki after a high tackle by Wests Tigers centre Justin Olam.

Olam was sent from the field, while Luki came off for a HIA and did not return.

Wests Tigers were also hit by injuries after rookie halfback Latu Fainu failed a HIA and prop Alex Twal came from the field in the second half with a wrist injury.

Rabbitohs winger Alex Johnston is facing 6-9 months out of the game after rupturing his Achilles in Canberra on Sunday night. Fullback Latrell Mitchell will continue with his conservative management of his foot injury and is facing four more weeks in a moon boot.
