
The Fighting Irish have continued to bolster their backroom ranks following the end of the 2024 season, with HC Freeman making a big statement with his latest appointment.
Notre Dame has officially confirmed the appointment of Mike Martin as its general manager in a huge coup for the Fighting Irish.
Having led his side to its first College Football National Championship game in 13 years, head coach Marcus Freeman has wasted no time in bolstering his ranks both on and off the field, with a number of players and staff walking through the doors in South Bend ahead of the 2025 season.
Martin has spent the past four seasons as director of scouting advancement for the Detroit Lions
Martin is said to have landed himself a multi-year contract worth an estimated “$500,000 annually, plus bonus incentives”, according to FootballScoop, and Freeman has expressed his delight at being able to welcome such a prestigious figure to the program’s set-up.
“Mike Martin is an innovative, forward-thinking, organized leader, who is also elite at talent evaluation,” Freeman said. “He is a great communicator and has valuable experience in roster building and management, as he was a vital piece of enhancing and developing the Detroit Lions’ roster over the last few years. Additionally, his expertise in utilizing sports science and analytics will help us continue to elevate our program.”
, helping the franchise reach the NFC Championship Game in the 2023 season before making the post-season playoffs once more in 2024, and Freeman will be hoping he can produce the same positive impact with the Fighting Irish at the collegiate level.
Before his stint in Detroit, Martin was part of the Carolina Panthers as the southwest area scout from 2018-20. He also had an 11-season tenure with the Houston Texans, beginning as a college scout for eight seasons, progressing to national scout for two seasons and ending his time there as the assistant director of college scouting
