Jaguars still bracing for the worst-case scenario for Trevor Lawrence
• Surgery is reportedly still a possibility for Trevor Lawrence.

The Jacksonville Jaguars could potentially get Trevor Lawrence back for the game against the Houston Texans in Week 13. However, a trusted NFL voice reports that there’s another scenario in which the fourth-year quarterback isn’t good to go and undergoes season-ending surgery to repair his shoulder.
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN broke the news that Lawrence could try to play through injury but could ultimately undergo surgery if he hasn’t recovered enough.
“Jacksonville is in a tough spot with Trevor Lawrence (shoulder), who has wanted to play through his injury and help the Jaguars rebound. But their 2-9 record and inevitable changes after the season loom large. Jacksonville will see how Lawrence feels mid-to-late week before making any decisions, but if the team shuts him down, surgery would seemingly be on the table.”
Lawrence suffered a shoulder sprain in Week 9 that’s forced him to sit out the past two games. Following the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media said he would weigh in on his options, which led to speculation about No. 16 getting a procedure done. He tried to shut it down, but based on Fowler’s report, it looks like it remains on the table.
Reading between the lines, this is a fluid situation. Lawrence had an extra week of rest during the team’s Bye and returned to practice ahead of the Texans game. Head coach Doug Pederson met with the local media Monday and said the Jags would see how the former Clemson Tiger does in practice before deciding whether he’ll play.
Pederson got back to the press corps Wednesday and called Lawrence’s first day at practice encouraging, pointing out that he didn’t have any setbacks but wasn’t ready to commit just yet.
Trevor Lawrence gives the Jacksonville Jaguars a tough decision
The Jacksonville Jaguars could certainly use Trevor Lawrence in their six remaining games. His absence exposed just how dreadful it is without him. Backup quarterback Mac Jones filled in for him, and they mustered just 13 points in the two games.
The fact that the Jags still have a slim chance to make the playoffs may incentivize Lawrence to push through injuries. Then again, they would have to run the table to have a shot, and a loss to the Houston Texans in Week 13 would put an end to any hopes of making the postseason. This puts the quarterback’s availability at center stage.
Should the Jaguars expose Lawrence to further injury to have a shot at the playoffs? Doug Pederson would certainly be the biggest beneficiary of the quarterback’s potential return. After all, the head coach is currently on the hot seat and is in a position to get the boot at some point in 2024 or next year. However, he may keep his job if Jacksonville does make the playoffs, as unlikely as it may be.
The bottom line is that Trevor Lawrence could end up playing against the Texans. On the other hand, nobody should bat an eye if things don’t go the way the team expects and he misses the rest of the season.

Not long after Trevor Lawrence suffered a shoulder sprain, chatter about potentially getting season-ending surgery. While it remains a possibility, the injury report for Week 13, along with comments head coach Doug Pederson made, offers optimism for the quarterback’s availability in the rematch against the Houston Texans.
Lawrence popped up on the Week 13 injury report, which is understandable when you take into account that he’s missed the past two games. Then again, the former Clemson Tiger is trending in the right direction. He partook in practice Monday and got most of the first-team reps Wednesday, meaning that there’s a chance he’ll suit up for the divisional bout.
While there are several things at play, Lawrence says he feels much better but is taking it day by day.
“Monday was a big day coming off the break and taking some time off before that for myself. So Monday was a big day, and I was able to do some stuff on the field, which is the first time in a while that I was able to do really anything significant,” Lawrence told the local media Wednesday. “So that was great. And then today will be the same thing, kind of ramp it up a little bit more and move around and try to simulate some game tempo, speed stuff for me, and see how I move.”
Lawrence continued, “I felt pretty good up at this point, it’s kind of a balancing act. You don’t want to push it too hard and set it back any but you also want to get yourself ready to play. So that’s what we’re doing today and tomorrow, just going to see how it responds and how I feel, and I feel like we have a great plan, and just take it day by day.”
Pederson, for his part, says he’s encouraged with the progress the Jaguars signal-caller has made but isn’t ready to commit to him yet.
“It’s encouraging. We’ll get through today,” Pederson told the local media Wednesday when asked about Lawrence. “Obviously, I’m not going to commit, but it was a good start to the week. And so we’ll see how he how he handles much more of a workload today.”
All things considered, Pederson is taking the right approach with the fourth-year quarterback. After all, he may not be ready for an uptick in workload and could ultimately suffer a setback if he presses too hard. On the other hand, it’s great to hear Lawrence is taking a step forward.
If Lawrence is ultimately not good enough to go, Mac Jones will start for the third time this season, which would be less than ideal. In the past two games, he completed 60.78 percent of his throws for 249 yards with three interceptions.
Apart from Lawrence, cornerback Tyson Campbell (shoulder) popped up on the injury report. Running back Tank Bigsby (ankle) and right guard Brandon Scherff (knee) also made an appearance but were full participants. On the other hand, linebacker Yasir Abdullah missed practice with a hamstring injury.
The Jaguars must take a precautionary approach to Trevor Lawrence’s shoulder injury
Last year, Trevor Lawrence was thrust into action because the Jacksonville Jaguars had a chance to make the playoffs. This season, though, they’re 2-9 and may not want to expose their starting quarterback to further injury when you take into account that their odds of qualifying are rather slim.
The Jags are currently a five-point favorite against the Houston Texans, and a win would keep their playoff hopes alive. Given that Lawrence gives them the best chance to win, they’ll try to do whatever’s possible to ensure he returns.
The bottom line is that Trevor Lawrence is making strides and could potentially suit up in Week 13. That said, he’ll need to keep improving before it can be safely assumed that he can play.

Maybe things aren’t nearly as bad as they seem for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Sure, they’re 2-9 following their BYE. However, they still have a chance to make the playoffs — as slim as it may be — and could potentially get their starting quarterback back for the divisional bout against the Houston Texans in Week 13.
Trevor Lawrence has been dealing with a shoulder sprain in recent weeks but is trending toward returning. Head coach Doug Pederson met with the local media Monday and said that the fourth-year quarterback will join practice, “Trevor’s going to practice today, and we’ll see where he’s at from there.”
Lawrence is dealing with a shoulder sprain that forced him to sit out the Jaguars’ last two games. Both were losses, and their underwhelming showing on offense proved just how much they need the former Clemson Tiger. During his absence, backup Mac Jones mustered a measly 13 points.
Granted, Lawrence has been far from perfect and even got off to a slow start to the season. However, he played much better in recent weeks and kept the Jags in games before he got hurt.
Lawrence originally got hurt in Week 9, and there was speculation that he could undergo shoulder surgery, which would effectively bring his season to an end. But based on Pederson’s comments and most recent updates, it looks like he’ll return at one point in the upcoming weeks.
For the season, Lawrence has appeared in nine games, completing 61.3 percent of his throws for 2,004 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. Below is Doug Pederson’s full exchange with the local media.
The Jaguars will need Trevor Lawrence if they want to salvage their season
There was chatter ahead of Week 11 that the Jacksonville Jaguars could dismiss Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke if the Chicago Bears beat them badly. They were embarrassed but owner Shad Khan opted not to make changes for the moment. Perhaps this will incentivize the Jags to finish the season strong, and having Trevor Lawrence back will only increase the chances of potentially making a run.
Currently, Jacksonville has less than a 1.0 percent chance of qualifying for the postseason, according to ESPN. However, its probability will increase to 20 percent if they run the table. That’s not necessarily great odds but it’s most definitely better than 1.0 percent.
For the sake of the argument, let’s say Lawrence is back and the Jaguars do make a playoff push. Once they get a ticket, it won’t matter how they got in. Then again, many things would have to go their way.
Apart from having to go 6-0 to end the season, the Jags would need the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts to lose at least three or four games the rest of the way. While it’s possible, it’s not a given that it will happen. On the other hand, nobody would’ve thought that Jacksonville would still be alive at this point of the season, and that should most definitely be a reason for optimism.

While a handful of NFL teams will be playing on either Thanksgiving slate or Black Friday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will have to wait until Sunday to face off against the Houston Texans. A win over their divisional rivals will keep their slim playoff hopes alive, while a loss could potentially bring their season to a halt. Either way, it doesn’t look like the Jags are ready to throw in the towel.
For instance, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. says he’s not giving up just yet and hopes to finish the season strong.
“Me, personally, I feel like I’m never out of a fight,” Thomas told reporters Monday. “I come in with the same mindset each and every day to fight till the end. Just see where that takes me. I feel like I’m never out of a fight, I feel like everyone in the locker room came in with the same mindset. Just want to finish off strong, and see where that takes us.”
That’s the mentality you want to see in young players, especially when things aren’t going well. And at 2-9, the Jaguars will need Thomas Jr. to step up if they want to pull off the upset in Week 13. With that in mind, here are a few Jaguars news on Thanksgiving Day. Enjoy.
Trevor Lawrence is back at practice, could suit up vs. the Texans
One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Jaguars in recent weeks has been Trevor Lawrence’s shoulder injury. The former Clemson Tiger originally got hurt in Week 9 and has missed the past two games. He returned to practice Monday and saw an uptick in reps Wednesday. That’s good news for a Jags team that is in need of a spark.
That said, Lawrence said that he’s taking it day by day, and head coach Doug Pederson isn’t ready to commit just yet. Still, the fourth-year quarterback is making strides, and having him against the Houston Texans will increase the Jags’ odds of holding onto their season.
The Jaguars brought back a familiar face in Tyler Shatley
Teams struggle to stay healthy at this point of the season, and Jacksonville is adding insurance in the offensive trenches: The team announced Tuesday that it signed veteran Tyler Shatley to the practice squad.
An undrafted free agent in 2014, Shatley spent his whole career with the Jaguars, appearing in 145 games with 51 starts. The former Clemson Tiger can line up at all three spots on the interior offensive line. His versatility could come in handy when you take into account that starters Brandon Scherff and Ezra Cleveland have dealt with injuries and sat out a few games the past few weeks.
Travis Hunter remains the popular choice for the Jaguars at No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft
The Jaguars are on pace to hold the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Given that they have a franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and are set at defensive end, two-way star Travis Hunter is seen as their best choice at this moment.
This makes sense when you take into account that they could use an offensive tackle, but there isn’t one worth taking with the top selection. Meanwhile, Hunter would give Lawrence another weapon if he chooses to play receiver full-time. On the other hand, the Colorado standout could line up opposite cornerback Tyson Campbell.
Either way, Hunter would address one of the Jaguars’ top needs next offseason, and you can add Owain Jones of Pro Football Network to the many voices who believe he should be the No. 1 pick.
Here’s what Jones had to say about Hunter being the best choice for Jacksonville:
“The MDS has followed the growing consensus that Travis Hunter is the firm favorite to be drafted first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. In a class where only a handful of players hold true first-round grades and even fewer are viewed as blue-chip caliber talents, Hunter stands out as an elite prospect with rare athleticism.
The Jacksonville Jaguars must improve their secondary, so this would be a home run selection for Jacksonville because Colorado’s two-way player projects best as a cornerback who can occasionally play offensive downs as a sub-package player.”

Following their Bye, the Jacksonville Jaguars remain in the thick of their playoff race. It isn’t that they’re suddenly playing well but rather that the AFC South isn’t in great shape 12 weeks into the season. Granted, their odds remain slim, but it’s somewhat impressive that the Jags still have a chance despite their underwhelming 2-9 record.
For his part, head coach Doug Pederson says that the team made the most out of their week off, noting that they made tweaks to the scheme on both sides of the ball.
“We took a dive into that right schematically, just to see where we were, and see what we’re doing, and see what we do well,” Pederson told the local media Monday when asked what he learned during the Bye. “There’s some things that I’m
