Trent Barrett won’t be at the Eels next season, with the club’s interim coach set to be let go as part of Jason Ryles’ rebuild.

According to a report from The Sydney Morning Herald, Ryles has already begun plans to bring in an entirely new coaching staff, which won’t include former teammate Barrett.

The pair played together for many years at the Dragons and despite Barrett’s glowing endorsement for Ryles after missing out on the top job, it won’t be enough to see him remain at Parramatta for 2025 and beyond.

Instead, the incoming Ryles will appoint new assistants in a bid to turn the side’s fortunes around following a tough 18-month period.

The 45-year-old was granted an early release from his role at the Melbourne Storm last week, but won’t take over at the Eels until November.

Barrett will remain in the caretaker position for the final seven rounds of the season.

Also in the works for Ryles will be re-shaping the club’s roster, with the likes of Ryan Matterson and Maika Sivo potentially on the outer heading into next year.

Ryles is also expected to make a huge play to keep young gun Blaize Talagi in the blue and gold long-term, with the Dolphins, St George Illawarra and Newcastle chasing him.

The 19-year-old has been a shining light for the Eels this year, but has reportedly expressed desire to play fullback – the position held by captain Clint Gutherson.

Should the rookie decide to stay put at Parramatta, the likelihood is that Gutherson would shift to the centres to accommodate Talagi.

Ryles will also have major contract calls to make when it comes to Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Kelma Tuilagi and Joe Ofahengaue, will all three players set to become available to rival clubs from November 1 this year.
